Buying your first home can be as scary as a Alfred Hitchcock novel?!.I don’t know about you, but for me making a commitment to a block of land which was covered in weeds and trawling through the newspapers looking for house designs to build, which included the luxury of a Theatre Room, Alfresco, Double Shower and room for a built in bar for your mates to sit around, is a really scary commitment. I was having trouble just committing to paying the deposit of $500 for the land. That money could have gone on a really good pair of shoes!
But you know what, building my house was the best thing I could have done in my life! I now have my own family living in something that I built, and yes, the house prices have gone up and down and everyone is a bit on edge, and my backyard may look like the Amazon because we haven’t yet decided (after 5 years) what to do with it! But hey, it’s an adventure for my dog every time I let him out!
You may be like me and during the time of making the biggest financial commitment of your life, have your parents sitting back and stating that ‘in their day, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, they paid $30,000 for their first home!’. Well Dad, $30,000 will get me a nice slab of concrete, but thanks for the support?! (hyperventilating). But remember, when it comes to getting those keys, and painting your bedroom fluorescent green because you want to, not because you have to, that it is your house and you have worked hard for it, and it will probably be the best thing you could have ever done!
